Putting out a Global Call

Less than a handful of you know who employs my husband, and it’s staying that way. We just wrote the bills yesterday from his most recent paycheck, though, and I have to let you know-

There are only two paychecks left.

Right after Christmas they let us know that within less than two months he would no longer have a job. I cannot tell you why or give you any specifics without placing those last two checks in jeopardy.

When we bought this house that has a far cheaper value and mortgage payment than our old house we did so because it would allow us to repair the old house, sell it, put some money toward our debt that accrued due to the bait shop failure, and finally be able to breathe. The mortgage here is less than a third of what we were paying for a POS little house in a more expensive county. We’d be able to relax. We wouldn’t be freaking out every month. We had to move out first so the repairs could be made, so we ended up with the two mortgages. We have been squeezing by, knowing that once the POS house was gone we’d be more than fine on Rich’s salary.

Only now he’s about to have none.

Monster. Careerbuilder. Dice. LinkedIn. Everything he can try has been tried. But he’s still trying.

No one wants him. Except in California. We can’t move to California.

Along with there being no income we will have no health insurance. I’ve been pricing family policies, and it looks like we can manage a whole family for less than $400 a month, which is far less than COBRA. I just submitted our taxes, and we’re getting a decent refund, which will hopefully cover that cost plus both mortgages and utilities for a couple of months.

A couple of months.

I can always tell how my husband is doing by the condition of the bedcovers in the morning. They’ve been a wreck for two weeks. At the beginning we didn’t allow ourselves to stress too terribly, because he’s excellent at what he does, and we figured we’d find a way.

I’m no longer sleeping either. We can’t seem to find a way. Everything has been hashed apart and discussed. The clock is ticking. The pages on the calendar keep turning. Blah blah blah.

If you’re the type of person who prays, please send us some. If you’re the type of person who sends out good energy, we’ll take as much of it as you can spare. Crossed fingers. Crossed eyes. It doesn’t really matter. Cross something. Please.

He needs a job.

EDIT- Rich says I can phrase it this way- His company’s contract is up. Also, he works in UNIX and data storage systems administration. So there you have it. Thank you, everyone.

I am SO SORRY! It is amazing how very educated and experienced people can NOT find work right now. I can’t even get an interview! I think some people have assumed that I am being picky! Not true. It’s different than it ever has been in my life. I am sending as much positive energy as I can muster up your way! Yes, I am afraid of losing my home and where I can live with my pets. I no longer have any insurance and that is scary as hell. But, I do not have a spouse and children to support, so I won’t even pretend that I’m in the same boat. If you want, send me a private message with a brief snippet of what he does and if I know anyone to hook him up with, I certainly will. I know that his skills and experience are far different than mine, so you never know, I may know someone who could be a good contact. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM – that’s my energy buzz – MMMMMMMM…

Thank you, hon. Not sure I can even tell you what he does without it being too much info. He’s very specialized, and if someone out there puts two and two together it could be bad.

Is your acct on eb active at all? I can send you a note there if you want me to. His brother just announced today that he’s leaving WM and going to work in Atlanta. Same field as Chris, but with Home Depot. He starts on Monday. Had to be a good job to leave what he has. Let me know if you want more info…

What about a contracting company like TechnoSoft? My company seems to be hiring TechnoSoft folks for IT infrastructure jobs…I know some people who were laid off from Nortel who ended up going to TechnoSoft pretty recently….
